Pre-Packaged foodAbstract: Nutritional Labeling communicates to consumer that the product holds those attributes that can fill the required need and contains components that are better as compared to the ones provided by the competitor. Nutritional labeling provides the customers with the opportunity to choose healthier food for themselves and their families.
This study determined level of awareness on pre-packaged food labeling information among consumers within Kathmandu, their perception on the importance of such information and difficulties encountered in reading and using prepackaged food labels. Also this paper examines how strongly packaging influences consumer buying behavior and what elements of the packaging are most important.A descriptive cross- sectional study was conducted and questionnaire with close ended questions was used to collect information from 120 consumers who purchase pre packaged food from different supermarkets. The obtained data were computed to determine relationships and associations between various factors and the use of food labeling information among consumers in the area of study.
Awareness and use of prepackaged food labeling information was found to be moderate among consumers in Kathmandu. Findings showed that only a quarter of the study respondents had high awareness on food labeling. Health concerns, religious beliefs and the need to know characteristics of food, motivate consumers to read prepackaged food labels. Awareness and use of prepackaged food labeling information was significantly associated with age, occupation and education level of respondents. People who read food labels concentrated on ingredients and expiry. It is therefore recommended that deliberate efforts should be taken to improve foodlabeling, provide education to consumers to raise their awareness and use of foodlabeling information as well as develop a consumer guide on food labeling.It has also been concluded that the Packaging is one of the important and powerful factor, which influences consumer’s purchase decision. Impact of training effectAbstract: The research is conducted on the topic “Banking Training and Employee Performance in Nepalese Financial Institution: Case of Nepalese Commercial Bank”. It deals with how employee performance is made after providing training in Nepalese financial institution. Training in the organization is arranged in order to provide basic knowledge and skill for managerial employees. I have used empirical data from primary sources, by conducting a survey among a sample of training methods by distributing structured questionnaires. The population for this research survey is employee of banking and Nepalese commercial bank. A total of 400 questionnaires were sent online, out of them, 385 responses were considered for data analysis. The results hence indicate that training content has significant positive impact on employee performance. Likewise, the beta coefficient for training needs assessment is positive with employee performance. The result hence indicates that training contents has significant positive impact on employee performance. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and suffocation account for more than half of all Sudden Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID). The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations describe the safest environments to protect infants. This study compared parent responses on the Newborn Sleep Safety Survey and observational assessments (N = 72) of infant sleep environments in families thought to be at high-risk for non-compliance with AAP recommendations.
Design and Methods
A naturalistic study of participants enrolled in two home visitation support programs was used. Observed risks ranged from 36.6% (never use pacifier) to 4.3% (never use firm mattress).
Results
Results comparing report to observation demonstrated acceptable concordance. Five items had fair concordance (Kappa > .4), four showed moderate concordance (Kappa > .6), and one excellent concordance (Kappa > .8). Although direct observation of safety behaviors is the gold standard in the injury prevention field, direct observation is logistically difficult, time consuming, and costly.
Conclusions
Research and interventions aimed at a reduction of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and suffocation require accurate assessment of the infant sleep environment. This study provides acceptable evidence for the use of the Newborn Sleep Safety Survey as an alternative to direct observation to assess parent adherence to recommendations. Childhood obesity is a growing health concern for Korean-Americans (KA). The purpose of this study was to develop a culturally appropriate Korean-language version of the Family Nutrition Physical Activity (FNPA) instrument and evaluate its comprehensibility and cultural appropriateness of the FNPA for KAs.
Design and Methods
The FNPA was translated into Korean and cognitive interviews were conducted with 19 KA mothers in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Results
Overall, participants reported that the FNPA is easy to understand and said they had no difficulty answering items using a 4-point Likert scale. Six out of 20 items had minor revisions due to: items that were not specific enough, had confusing wording, or led to incorrect interpretations.
Conclusions
Cognitive interviews confirmed the cultural appropriateness of the translated FNPA in the KA context. Limited research has been conducted on the non-medical out-of-pocket expenses (NOOPEs) incurred by families of children with chronic health conditions. The study objectives were to: 1) calculate the estimated NOOPEs incurred by families during hospitalization of their child, 2) identify predictors of high NOOPEs, and 3) assess the impact of the child's chronic health condition on the family's finances.
Design and Methods
Prospective observational study. Parents were included if their child was 3–20 years old, had severe, non-ambulatory cerebral palsy (CP), and scheduled for hip or spine surgery. Parents reported all NOOPEs incurred during their child's hospitalization using the Family Expense Diary. Families completed the subscales of the Impact on Family Scale and the Assessment of Caregivers Experience with Neuromuscular Disease. Descriptive and univariate and multiple hierarchical regression models were used in the analysis.
Results
Fifty two parents participated. The total NOOPEs ranged from $193.00 to $7192.71 (M = $2001.92) per hospitalization representing an average of 4% of the family's annual earned income. Caregiver age (F = 8.393, p < 0.001), income (F = 7.535, p < 0.001), and distance traveled to the hospital (F = 4.497, p = 0.039) were significant predictors of high NOOPEs. The subscale scores indicated that a child's chronic health condition had a significant impact on family finances.
Conclusions and Practice Implications
Hospitalization is associated with numerous NOOPEs that create additional financial demands for families caring for a child with severe CP.
