Pre-Packaged foodAbstract: Nutritional Labeling communicates to consumer that the product holds those attributes that can fill the required need and contains components that are better as compared to the ones provided by the competitor. Nutritional labeling provides the customers with the opportunity to choose healthier food for themselves and their families.
This study determined level of awareness on pre-packaged food labeling information among consumers within Kathmandu, their perception on the importance of such information and difficulties encountered in reading and using prepackaged food labels. Also this paper examines how strongly packaging influences consumer buying behavior and what elements of the packaging are most important.A descriptive cross- sectional study was conducted and questionnaire with close ended questions was used to collect information from 120 consumers who purchase pre packaged food from different supermarkets. The obtained data were computed to determine relationships and associations between various factors and the use of food labeling information among consumers in the area of study.
Awareness and use of prepackaged food labeling information was found to be moderate among consumers in Kathmandu. Findings showed that only a quarter of the study respondents had high awareness on food labeling. Health concerns, religious beliefs and the need to know characteristics of food, motivate consumers to read prepackaged food labels. Awareness and use of prepackaged food labeling information was significantly associated with age, occupation and education level of respondents. People who read food labels concentrated on ingredients and expiry. It is therefore recommended that deliberate efforts should be taken to improve foodlabeling, provide education to consumers to raise their awareness and use of foodlabeling information as well as develop a consumer guide on food labeling. It has also been concluded that the Packaging is one of the important and powerful factor, which influences consumer’s purchase decision. Most of the consumers agree that packaging influence their buying decision.Curricular : BBA/MBA Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26934 SIU IS. Title : Cognitive Interviews for Validating the Family Nutrition Physical Activity Instrument for Korean-American Families With Young Children Material Type: printed text Authors: Park, So Hyun, Author ; Park, Chang Gi, Author ; McCreary, Linda, Author ; Norr, Kathleen F., Author Publication Date: 2017 Article on page: p.1-6 Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng)
in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.36 No.5 (Sep-Oct) 2017 [10/18/2017] . - p.1-6Keywords: Childhood obesity. Family environment. Korean-Americans. Family Nutrition Physical Activity. Immigrants. Cognitive interview. Abstract: Purpose
Childhood obesity is a growing health concern for Korean-Americans (KA). The purpose of this study was to develop a culturally appropriate Korean-language version of the Family Nutrition Physical Activity (FNPA) instrument and evaluate its comprehensibility and cultural appropriateness of the FNPA for KAs.
Design and Methods
The FNPA was translated into Korean and cognitive interviews were conducted with 19 KA mothers in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Results
Overall, participants reported that the FNPA is easy to understand and said they had no difficulty answering items using a 4-point Likert scale. Six out of 20 items had minor revisions due to: items that were not specific enough, had confusing wording, or led to incorrect interpretations.
Conclusions
Cognitive interviews confirmed the cultural appropriateness of the translated FNPA in the KA context. It is crucial that child's age and cultural aspects of a child's household routines should be taken into consideration when the original FNPA is being used with culturally diverse populations.Link for e-copy: http://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-pediatric-nursing/ Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27391 [article] Cognitive Interviews for Validating the Family Nutrition Physical Activity Instrument for Korean-American Families With Young Children [printed text] / Park, So Hyun, Author ; Park, Chang Gi, Author ; McCreary, Linda, Author ; Norr, Kathleen F., Author . - 2017 . - p.1-6.

Title : A Whooping Cough Education Module for WIC Clients in Utah Material Type: printed text Publication Date: 2017 Languages : English (eng)
in MCN > Vol.42 No.5 (Sep-Oct) 2017 [10/09/2017]Keywords: Nutrition program.WIC: Women Infants and children.WIC Clients in Utah.Education Module for WIC Abstract: Background: Clients in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) are required to complete education modules quarterly to maintain eligibility. The purposes of this project were to: (1) create a whooping cough vaccination education module for WIC clients; (2) evaluate baseline perceptions of WIC clients on the whooping cough vaccine and disease; and (3) evaluate whooping cough knowledge following completion of the module.
Problem: A decline in vaccination rates among infants and children using WIC services was reported by a local WIC program director who requested whooping cough vaccination education materials. This quality improvement project included development of a whooping cough education module and evaluation of learning.
Methods: Learning was evaluated using a pre- and posttest design. Client feedback was solicited via open-ended questions. Quantitative analysis was performed on visual analog-type questions with paired t-tests and a Cohen's d. Content analysis was conducted on open-ended items.
Interventions: The module was designed by a team of vaccination experts and included general definitions, signs and symptoms during the three stages of disease, recommendations to prevent whooping cough, and vaccination recommendations. Learning of users of the module was then evaluated.
Results: After using the module, clients indicated they were significantly more likely to vaccinate themselves and their child against whooping cough, and to recommend the vaccination to their family members. The greatest concern of participants about whooping cough was how it affected infants. Participants reported they learned new information on disease seriousness, recognition of symptoms, and treatment options but still requested additional information on the whooping cough disease and vaccine.
Conclusions: A whooping cough education module is an effective strategy to improve whooping cough knowledge and promote the whooping cough vaccine.
