Title : Impact of Non-medical Out-of-pocket Expenses on Families of Children : With Cerebral Palsy Following Orthopaedic Surgery Material Type: printed text Authors: Vessey Judith A., Author ; DiFazio, Rachel L., Author ; Strou, Tania D, Author ; Snyde, Brian D, Author Publication Date: 2018 Article on page: p.101-107 Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng)
in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.37 No.6 (Nov-Dec) 2017 [03/29/2018] . - p.101-107Keywords: Non-medical out-of-pocket expenses, Cerebral palsy, Financial burden, Impact on Family Scale, Assessment of Caregivers Experience with Neuromuscular Disease (ACEND), Children with Special Health Care Needs. Abstract: Purpose
Limited research has been conducted on the non-medical out-of-pocket expenses (NOOPEs) incurred by families of children with chronic health conditions. The study objectives were to: 1) calculate the estimated NOOPEs incurred by families during hospitalization of their child, 2) identify predictors of high NOOPEs, and 3) assess the impact of the child's chronic health condition on the family's finances.
Design and Methods
Prospective observational study. Parents were included if their child was 3–20 years old, had severe, non-ambulatory cerebral palsy (CP), and scheduled for hip or spine surgery. Parents reported all NOOPEs incurred during their child's hospitalization using the Family Expense Diary. Families completed the subscales of the Impact on Family Scale and the Assessment of Caregivers Experience with Neuromuscular Disease. Descriptive and univariate and multiple hierarchical regression models were used in the analysis.
Results
Fifty two parents participated. The total NOOPEs ranged from $193.00 to $7192.71 (M = $2001.92) per hospitalization representing an average of 4% of the family's annual earned income. Caregiver age (F = 8.393, p < 0.001), income (F = 7.535, p < 0.001), and distance traveled to the hospital (F = 4.497, p = 0.039) were significant predictors of high NOOPEs. The subscale scores indicated that a child's chronic health condition had a significant impact on family finances.
Conclusions and Practice Implications
Hospitalization is associated with numerous NOOPEs that create additional financial demands for families caring for a child with severe CP. NOOPEs should be addressed when preparing families for their children's planned hospital admissions, especially those families of CSHCN who experience significant financial impacts secondary to their children's care.Link for e-copy: http://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-pediatric-nursing/ Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27634 [article] Impact of Non-medical Out-of-pocket Expenses on Families of Children : With Cerebral Palsy Following Orthopaedic Surgery [printed text] / Vessey Judith A., Author ; DiFazio, Rachel L., Author ; Strou, Tania D, Author ; Snyde, Brian D, Author . - 2018 . - p.101-107.

[LCSH]WorkKeywords: Work-Life Balance, Work-Family Conflict, Work-Family Enrichment, Work-Life Initiatives, Time-based conflict, Strain-based conflict, Behavior-based conflict Abstract: This study aims to explore and identify the ICT-based employees’ issues and perceptions of work-life balance in the context of Nepal. The respondents were from well-established software development companies assigned to various department/position in Nepal. Self-administered questionnaires were used to collect the data. Factor Analysis discovered five factors: (1) time-based conflict; (2) strain-based conflict; (3) behavior-based conflict; (4) causes and consequences of work-family conflicts (WFCs); and (5) work-family enrichment (WEF). The ICT-based employees had experienced time-based, strain-based and behavior-based WFCs in their workplaces with consequent negative impacts on their work, family, physical and psychological health outcomes. The employees generally perceived that their work and life are not balanced in their workplace.
The findings suggest that time-based conflict, strain-based conflict and causes and consequences of WFCs are negatively correlated with the overall perception of work-life balance among employees while work-life enrichment is positively correlated with work-life balance. Thus, WFCs have not spared the Nepal ICT-based industries and the employees need work-family enrichment (WFE). Work-life initiatives are recommended to increase work-life balance, improve the position of ICT-based organizations as an employer choice, and retain and attract better quality workers.Curricular : BBA/MBA Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27404 SIU IS. School adaptationAbstract: This study focuses on the school adaptation and social support of migrant children, uses the method of quantitative research and divides school adaptation into three aspects: learning adaptation, relationship adaptation and behavior adaptation, and divides social support into three dimensions: government support, school support and family support. This study designed the evaluation indicators of school adaptation, self-efficacy and social support. A total of 450 questionnaires were randomly distributed to migrant children in Guangdong Province. Based on empirical research, SPSS software is used to analyze the questionnaire, and descriptive statistical analysis is used to analyze the basic background of migrant children.
Based on the literature review, this paper puts forward research hypotheses and hypothesis models. With the help of Amos software, this paper uses structural equation model analysis to explore the impact of social support on migrant children's school adaptation and the role of self-efficacy. The study found that the dimensions of social support had a direct positive effect on the dimensions of school adaptation of migrant children, and self-efficacy played a partial intermediary role in social support and school adaptation, which verified the hypothesis. Therefore, this paper reconstructs the social support system, with government support as the leader, school support as the main promoter and family support as the auxiliary.Curricular : BBA/GE/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=28461 SIU Thesis. Tourism spaceAbstract: This paper proposes a management model call ‘State as Co-Producer in the realm of tourism space: theoretical framework of TIME-SPACE & SELF’. This approach will contribute to the state’s policy and planning for tourism development. While traditional state’s role acts as a typical regulator or basic state developer e.g., building fundamental infrastructure and promoting the destination brand image, this paper proposes state in a new set of paradigm shift in more practical policy and planning, proactive-state as a co-stage producer. While the destination should not be viewed as blank space and the government-state’s job is to fill up this empty space by merely building basic infrastructures, instead we argue and suggest state’s role as proactive ‘co-stage producer’ to script, to theme, to nationalize, and to standardize the spaces as experiential stage or dramatized theater.
The research methodology is constructed from a set of serial researches of data collections as a larger doctoral research project. As tourism industry involves different and fragmented stakeholders, the researches are conducted with different interest groups from various tourism bodies: government, academic institutions, service providers (small-boutique hotel, spa service, tour operator, restaurant), and also tourists with different research questions for different sample.
In the finding drawn from the empirical cases in Thailand where state’s role has been co-producing the new tourism space through the time - space commodification and performing the frontstage and backstage management under the state’s policies and planning and create the new flow of consumption and production for new spaces. Simultaneously the tourist consumes space and time through their own five sensory touches. In this research the postmodern tourist becomes central study which plays role as new middle income consumer and quest for new tourism space of authenticity and modernity.
This paper put together these variable and construct the interrelationship pattern where ‘Time to be commodified’, ‘Space to be consumed’, and ‘Self to be experienced’ create the new flow of production and consumption within the new tourism space.Curricular : BBA/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26633 SIU Thesis. Title : Barriers to Addressing Social Determinants of Health in Pediatric Nursing Practice : An Integrative Review Material Type: printed text Publication Date: 2018 Article on page: p.51-56 Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng)
in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.37 No.6 (Nov-Dec) 2017 [03/29/2018] . - p.51-56Keywords: Social determinants of health, Children and families, Family-centered care. Abstract: Problem
Despite a substantial body of knowledge regarding the importance of the social determinants of health, recognizing and responding to the psychosocial circumstances of seriously and chronically ill children and their families is not well established in routine pediatric nursing care.
Eligibility Criteria
the search process focused on psychological and social determinants and care in the healthcare setting. Searches were limited to research and review publications written in the English language. The quality of evidence was graded using the National Health and Medical Research Council evidence hierarchy.
Results
Thirteen publications were identified for inclusion. Healthcare providers do recognize emotional distress experienced by patients, but feel unable to address psychosocial issues due to the lack of time, a lack of confidence in their own communication skills, and the perception that patients and their families prioritize physical care over psychosocial care. For patients and their families the main issue was that the healthcare system was focused on physical care with little opportunity to talk about psychosocial concerns.
Conclusions
The greatest barrier to addressing the social determinants of health in the pediatric context is the dominance of the ‘medical model’ of care. Also, many healthcare providers believe that they lack the communication skills necessary to talk about psychosocial issues.Link for e-copy: http://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-pediatric-nursing/ Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27622 [article] Barriers to Addressing Social Determinants of Health in Pediatric Nursing Practice : An Integrative Review [printed text] . - 2018 . - p.51-56.

Abstract: Bullying is not a new concept or behavior, and is now gaining national attention as a growing public health concern. Bullying leads to short- and long-term physical and psychological damage to both the victims and the bullies. The serious implications of bullying drive a clinical mandate for teachers and school nurses to be educated and adequately trained to identify and address bullying within schools. This review of the literature describes screening tools that can be utilized to identify both victims and bullies. In addition, referral services utilizing collaborative intervention measures are discussed. This literature review will help school nurses and teachers to identify and expand their role in school-wide bullying prevention and intervention measures.
