ThailandAbstract: The purpose of this study was to determine and explain the effects of exchange rates on agricultural products exported from January 2003 to June 2014. The first part was the quantitative research to find the relationships between economic indicators and exchange rates of Thai Baht per US Dollar using Multiple Regression, and the relationships between exchange rates and agriculture products exports using Linear Regression. The second part was the qualitative research to find the relationships between exchange rates and export volumes of exported agricultural products.
The first part of study showed that the economic indicators were forward position (bought), balance of payment, international reserves, and interest rates that were taken as independent variables, while exchange rates were taken as a dependent variable. The best economic indicator model showed highest R2. The result also indicated the negative relationship of forward position (bought), balance of payment, and international reserves versus exchange rates. The other result of regression showed that variation in interest rates had no relationship with exchange rates. However it was also indicated the exchange rate affected the overall export volume of agricultural products among which three top products were rice, rubber, and tapioca respectively by applying Linear Regression. The result showed negative correlation of such effect. The last part was qualitative research to determine and explain the effect of exchange rates especially on rice and rubber exports obtained from the in-depth interviews of respondents which were analyzed using Content Analysis to categorize based on similar response. There were seventeen interviewees, from different levels within private and governmental businesses. The results found that there were many factors affected exchange fluctuation. The effect of exchange rates on rice and rubber exports created problems and obstacles to business growth specially when the exchange rate experiences strong fluctuations. Therefore, the company had to book forward contracts to hedge foreign exchange risk.

Micro-Finance InstitutionsAbstract: The study has been done in the rural areas of the Janakpur as case study of the short term migration, livestock as an income generating activities and MFIs as a microloan provider in a socio-economic perspective. The study was done to compare the socio-economic situation with the short term migrant and non-migrant, MFIs borrowers and non-borrowers, perspective of rearing livestock in poor rural area in Janakpur. It is found that most of the family or at least the one or more family members have migrated in search of job out of the village either in nearby town, city and boarder area with India and the income through migrating is the dependable source of their livelihood, paying back the debt they obeyed. There is little or none change has been seen in the migrants’ households as they spent most of their earning on the consumption purposes, payback debt, on medical expenses, building houses. Few of them have invested their saving on income generating activities: the cash crops, livestock and small scale of instant cash businesses. It can be seen that livestock is a common asset amongst households across all expenditure. The majority of households, therefore, have some motives to keep livestock, either as a risk-coping or income-enhancing strategy. Poorer households are more likely to keep small ruminants than richer ones who are more likely to keep large ruminants. Well-off is using livestock as the consumption and income enhancing purposes whereas the poor households see it as an income generating or the exchange mode of money in immediate need. It was seen that the most of the clients housing quality and household has been increased and they are having a good condition home that can save them with seasonal disaster in comparison to non-clients. Government ManagementAbstract: The paper evaluates the effectiveness of recent initiatives introduced by the Royal Thai Government proliferate Broadband services in Thailand. With globalization, the society is constantly changing resulting by information technology and Internet access to play an important role in communication, social, political, economic or even environmental. Because of the rapid-technological advancement, it causes that many countries moving up their focus on developing infrastructure to enhance the information technology and innovation. The data transmission not only text messages but also pictures such as VDO conference is important to make use of information technology is faster and more efficient. The perception is very convenient and fast and hence requires a good core broadband infrastructure. The role of Information and Communication Technology infrastructure (ICT infrastructure) enables leaders on governments’ decision based on the real time and reliable information. Of course, the government leaders in many countries realized that the quality and performance on ICT infrastructure would directly affect developing countries. In order to monitor the countries in the crisis situation, the stable and qualified network is required which the government called as S-M-A-R-T network.
Under ICT2020 Policy Framework and Broadband Policy, Ministry of ICT accelerates connected S-M-A-R-T network to develop ICT infrastructure in Thailand recently. On another hand, Thailand economy is also important mechanism for strengthening competitiveness. The new business opportunities with many other countries have defined a policy and planning in developing Broadband seriously and continuously. In this paper, the study identifies the policies and plans of development and building broadband infrastructure of the leaders in the development of broadband top of the world, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, The United States, Australia and Sweden, a country that have a clear policy and plan development. The projects initiated and measures taken by the Government of Thailand in the broadband sector have been studied. The information has been gathered by interacting with the executive officers of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Ministry of Information Communication and Technology, Thailand, from interviewing the officers of government departments: Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Public Health (MOH) and etc.
In fact, there are many countries deploying their National ICT including broadband policy framework and Thailand would learn from them. Although business and social environment of those countries are difference, but some can be applied to align with the Thai’s current situation. Sharing common vision about national broadband roadmap and related development to fulfill the realistic National ICT policy are needed from key stakeholders such as a Ministry, a telecom regulator, and organizations that are in charge of economic development.
Finally, success in qualified National ICT policy implementation, the government needs to impose precedence in network infrastructure and relating parts as priority to ensure that the plan can be transformed to action plan effectively. In this study, the researcher also found that providing the obvious network infrastructure plan and implementation would influence further developments in ICT related activities such as IT security, business applications, increasing of Internet penetration rate as well as technology adoption in real sectors in the country.
In conclusion, the desirable strategy and plan should be taken by key stakeholders (as mentioned in this study) to meet with “Government Management”. It means that the government has to keep monitoring and evaluating it seriously. With this study, the researcher found that not only technological adoption, but also a result of compliance the prior plan and then release to achieve consistently is a major success of plan implementation. Like Japan and Korea, they are superior examples for Thailand to improve and develop their government managing system.

Solutions of the Performance ImprovementsAbstract: Thai property fund with over ten–year history has showed continuously growth similar to the international REITs. Alas, low number of the available academic studies about the fund performance, however, might result in inefficient investment, fund and property management and regulatory employment. On the other way around, having on hand such information would benefit to country’s economy, financial and real estate business sectors, job creation and investment and saving in the future aging society.
In this research, both of the quantitative and qualitative approaches were conducted to understand concerned risk factors to the fund performance. The Bloomberg data of the fund return were regressed with quantified proxies of the risk factors, whilst 41 qualified samples were interviewed to understand their opinions about major risk concerns and workable solutions for the fund improvement.
The quantitative research provided a significant relationship between the fund performance and the market risk factor, but insignificant relationship with credit and liquidity risks. The qualitative method also showed consistent results for both market and credit risk factors. Unlike international REITs, Thai fund exhibit different features from low debt use, and short – term interest rate and debt cost. On liquidity risk, both methods supported fund size benefit, although the results showed statistically insignificance, which contradicted to the international REITs. Different maturity level between the developed and emerging counties might result in limited numbers of Thai funds with enough large size for the institutional and foreign investors to participate, so lack of investment choices might cause price appreciation of large funds. Concerns on operational risks for Thai fund is similar to REITs in relation with the property manager and sponsor, but not to the fund manager from main role of monitoring. They perceived that being low cost carriers, the airline would cut unnecessary costs, which caused the airline providing low service quality. There are many low cost carriers in Thailand, such as, AirAsia (Thailand), Nok Air, and One- Two-Go Airlines. They are very competitive in term of airfare (price war). However, services of the airlines are one of the key strategies to maintain their customer’s loyalty. In this research, AirAsia, (Thailand) has been selected for this study since the airline is well known and has the biggest market share in Thailand in term of low cost carriers. ThailandAbstract: The Chinese government has been extending its influence through a variety of means in its current going out policy. Both hard and soft power systems have been deployed and prominent among the latter are the Confucius Institutes that have been opened in many countries around the world. These institutes are similar to the British Council or Goethe Institut in that they combine opportunities to learn the relevant language from native speakers with programmes to promote home country culture and different forms of interaction that people can have with it.
However, Confucius Institutes have attracted criticism in some countries because of the unwillingness of staff members to acknowledge issues relating to censorship and human rights in China, as well as because of specific historical incidents that have caused tension. In addition, questions have been raised about the quality of teaching and management at some institutes.
This research outlines the findings of a qualitative research project investigating the management of Confucius Institutes in Thailand. Interviewing took place in part during a period of strengthening Sino-Thai relations resulting from political and commercial reasons and a more prominent role for Chinese corporations in the Thai economy.
The study seeks to analyze the details behind the establishment of Confucius Institutes, their organizational mechanism, and their activities. The focus investigation in case of Thailand, with the aid of secondary desk research and primary qualitative research, aims to identify the reasons for this distinctive pattern and the international relationship it has with success of the project in strategic and operational terms from an organizational perspective.

Tourism spaceAbstract: This paper proposes a management model call ‘State as Co-Producer in the realm of tourism space: theoretical framework of TIME-SPACE & SELF’. This approach will contribute to the state’s policy and planning for tourism development. While traditional state’s role acts as a typical regulator or basic state developer e.g., building fundamental infrastructure and promoting the destination brand image, this paper proposes state in a new set of paradigm shift in more practical policy and planning, proactive-state as a co-stage producer. While the destination should not be viewed as blank space and the government-state’s job is to fill up this empty space by merely building basic infrastructures, instead we argue and suggest state’s role as proactive ‘co-stage producer’ to script, to theme, to nationalize, and to standardize the spaces as experiential stage or dramatized theater.
The research methodology is constructed from a set of serial researches of data collections as a larger doctoral research project. As tourism industry involves different and fragmented stakeholders, the researches are conducted with different interest groups from various tourism bodies: government, academic institutions, service providers (small-boutique hotel, spa service, tour operator, restaurant), and also tourists with different research questions for different sample.
In the finding drawn from the empirical cases in Thailand where state’s role has been co-producing the new tourism space through the time - space commodification and performing the frontstage and backstage management under the state’s policies and planning and create the new flow of consumption and production for new spaces. Simultaneously the tourist consumes space and time through their own five sensory touches. In this research the postmodern tourist becomes central study which plays role as new middle income consumer and quest for new tourism space of authenticity and modernity.
This paper put together these variable and construct the interrelationship pattern where ‘Time to be commodified’, ‘Space to be consumed’, and ‘Self to be experienced’ create the new flow of production and consumption within the new tourism space.Curricular : BBA/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26633 SIU Thesis. Study USAAbstract: Education is now open for all people who seek for and be eligible to pay for it. Education services have become a commodity in international marketplace. In Thailand, higher education increasingly plays an essential role in enabling greater opportunities for growth and attractiveness to foreign investment. For the Thais, in order to secure good employment position, studying abroad is a popular choice. It is a passport to a better employment opportunity and a relatively higher social status, despite the relatively higher cost and personal insecurity concerning living away from home. Moreover, studying abroad is an effective way of gaining English proficiency. The ability to read and write English is an asset for people in Thailand or any Asian countries. Having knowledge about Western cultures through living in a particular country is a worthwhile experience. There are a lot of Thai students wish to study the graduate degrees in the UK and the US. They have various choice to choose and many decisions to make. Understanding the needs and wants of the students or the demand side as well as the ability to give education as a service product or the supply side, a better arrangement can be planned. Based on the study results, alternatives to studying abroad, such as newer and better study programs in Thailand that suit students’ needs at more reasonable costs may be brought in to consideration.
This paper discusses the determinants of students in higher education from Thailand to study in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (US) as the two of the most popular countries among all international students, with the best globally recognized education systems. Various study abroad perspective were discussed and also toward other study destinations i.e. Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Thailand itself. The possible effects of the UK and US marketing strategies to recruit students in Thailand and related factors influencing decision of the students are brought in to discuss. A questionnaire interview was carried out on students and alumni from Thailand who had chosen to study in the UK or the US including observations from education service agents, higher education institutes representatives from the UK and US, and prospective Thai students seeking for education in the UK and US.
The questionnaire shown interesting perspective toward the students’ choice of education, university selection, sensitivity to price, and length of time spent, for example. The majority of the education service agents is maintaining the good level of effort in recruiting Thai students for both the UK and the US universities. The business is unpredictable due to the change of uncontrollable factors but the agent strongly believe there is huge demand for study abroad. Most of the stakeholders agreed that there are opportunities for the growth of international education in Thailand, also pathways for developments. However, the quality improvement and the cost reduction may need to be in account. . The HEIs will gain various opportunities for international education in the student source countries including Thailand as a geographical center of ASEAN is likely to benefit for the growth of international education. Even though, the group of students went to study abroad will not opt to study international program in the country. Statistic data shows the positive grow of student in the program as well. Grapheme-BasedAbstract: Transliterating of proper names is the process of converting a word from source natural language (such as Somali) to a target natural language (such as English) while preserving pronunciation. Proper names and technical words are challenging in bilingual translation systems and also in Cross-Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) applications, due to their absence in the dictionary.
In this Thesis, we study transliteration problem of Somali to English; Somali-English transliteration is an under-studied problem. Our Somali-English transliteration system uses transliteration rules based on the orthographic mapping of the source language characters to the characters of the target language. We also propose Somali transliteration table that maps the Somali characters that don't have corresponding characters in English. Our language specific approach combines the direct mapping, Somali transliteration table along with the dependency rules which enhances and improves the transliteration accuracy.Curricular : BALA/BSCS/GE/MSIT/MTEIL Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26775 SIU Thesis.
