Political parties in ThailandClass number: SIU THE: SOM-PhD-MS-2014-03 Abstract: The Thai political system has evoled in an atmosphere in which unaccountable factions have regularly acted in front of and behind the scenes to circumvent the will of the people through military coups and other interventions. This has led to the situation in which political parties and their individual leaders tended to replicate the existing models by becoming partician and generally opaque in their attempts to attract voters and indeed in their subsequent behavior However, new communication techniques pioneered by successful Clinton and Blair campaigns, have convinced at least some Thai politicians that they should follow the same path and aim to make direct connections with voters not just through personal relationships but also through the creation of policies that prople might genuinely support. This thesis uses a mostly quantitative research approach to explore these issues. It focuses on a questionnaire survey of more than 400 respondents in for distinct areas of Thailand of voters who took part in the 2007 general election. the four regions concerned were Bangkok Chiang Mai Khon Kaen and Phuket. This analysis was supplemented by qualitative interviewing and critical discourse analysis in addition to the collation and analysis of secondary data. Results indicate that the role of ideology-as opposed to personal connections and relationships is becoming more influential in determining voting intentions and that political communications is playing a role in this both in terms of the range of individual media involved and the importance of individual media Implications and recommendations are drawn from this analysis. Government ManagementAbstract: The paper evaluates the effectiveness of recent initiatives introduced by the Royal Thai Government proliferate Broadband services in Thailand. With globalization, the society is constantly changing resulting by information technology and Internet access to play an important role in communication, social, political, economic or even environmental. Because of the rapid-technological advancement, it causes that many countries moving up their focus on developing infrastructure to enhance the information technology and innovation. The data transmission not only text messages but also pictures such as VDO conference is important to make use of information technology is faster and more efficient. The perception is very convenient and fast and hence requires a good core broadband infrastructure. The role of Information and Communication Technology infrastructure (ICT infrastructure) enables leaders on governments’ decision based on the real time and reliable information. Of course, the government leaders in many countries realized that the quality and performance on ICT infrastructure would directly affect developing countries. In order to monitor the countries in the crisis situation, the stable and qualified network is required which the government called as S-M-A-R-T network.
Under ICT2020 Policy Framework and Broadband Policy, Ministry of ICT accelerates connected S-M-A-R-T network to develop ICT infrastructure in Thailand recently. On another hand, Thailand economy is also important mechanism for strengthening competitiveness. The new business opportunities with many other countries have defined a policy and planning in developing Broadband seriously and continuously. In this paper, the study identifies the policies and plans of development and building broadband infrastructure of the leaders in the development of broadband top of the world, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, The United States, Australia and Sweden, a country that have a clear policy and plan development. The projects initiated and measures taken by the Government of Thailand in the broadband sector have been studied. The information has been gathered by interacting with the executive officers of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Ministry of Information Communication and Technology, Thailand, from interviewing the officers of government departments: Ministry of Education (MOE), Ministry of Public Health (MOH) and etc.
In fact, there are many countries deploying their National ICT including broadband policy framework and Thailand would learn from them. Although business and social environment of those countries are difference, but some can be applied to align with the Thai’s current situation. Sharing common vision about national broadband roadmap and related development to fulfill the realistic National ICT policy are needed from key stakeholders such as a Ministry, a telecom regulator, and organizations that are in charge of economic development.
Finally, success in qualified National ICT policy implementation, the government needs to impose precedence in network infrastructure and relating parts as priority to ensure that the plan can be transformed to action plan effectively. In this study, the researcher also found that providing the obvious network infrastructure plan and implementation would influence further developments in ICT related activities such as IT security, business applications, increasing of Internet penetration rate as well as technology adoption in real sectors in the country.
In conclusion, the desirable strategy and plan should be taken by key stakeholders (as mentioned in this study) to meet with “Government Management”. It means that the government has to keep monitoring and evaluating it seriously. With this study, the researcher found that not only technological adoption, but also a result of compliance the prior plan and then release to achieve consistently is a major success of plan implementation. Like Japan and Korea, they are superior examples for Thailand to improve and develop their government managing system.

Even though the research concentrates mainly on aforementioned factors, it also explores into the consumer satisfaction regarding the services provided by private hospitals in both Thailand and Myanmar (Burma). The research involves a questionnaire survey of two hundred new Burmese patients at Bumrungrad hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. Demographics and other characteristics of patients, their attitudes toward private hospitals in their own country and their attitudes towards the Bumrungrad hospital, their reasons in choosing that particular hospital in Thailand and important factors in choosing a hospital in a foreign country were analyzed and explored. The analysis of the survey responses revealed that most of the patients had a very similar view on the important factors in choosing a foreign hospital and that almost all of them felt the same level of satisfaction with the Bumrungrad hospital and the same attitude toward the private hospitals in their home country and also toward the Bumrungrad hospital. It was found that the patients’ attitudes toward private hospitals in their own country influence their decision in choosing Bumrungrad hospital. Secondly, the demographic characteristics of the patients were found to have an influence on their satisfaction with the hospital services provided by the hospital. Furthermore, it was evident from the analyses that the attitudes of the patients towards private hospitals in their country influence their attitudes toward the Bumrungrad hospital. Lastly, the patients’ attitudes toward the Bumrungrad hospital was influenced by the patients’ satisfaction level after experiencing hospital services. This research is expected to provide an insight into the customer behavior in the field of medical tourism and hoped to be useful as an introductory endeavor in examining the relationships between various variables including but not limited to characteristics, attitudes, decision factors and satisfaction of patients from different countries in choosing hospitals in foreign countries. In Thailand, higher education increasingly plays an essential role in enabling greater opportunities for growth and attractiveness to foreign investment. For the Thais, in order to secure good employment position, studying abroad is a popular choice. It is a passport to a better employment opportunity and a relatively higher social status, despite the relatively higher cost and personal insecurity concerning living away from home. Moreover, studying abroad is an effective way of gaining English proficiency. The ability to read and write English is an asset for people in Thailand or any Asian countries. Having knowledge about Western cultures through living in a particular country is a worthwhile experience. There are a lot of Thai students wish to study the graduate degrees in the UK and the US. They have various choice to choose and many decisions to make. Understanding the needs and wants of the students or the demand side as well as the ability to give education as a service product or the supply side, a better arrangement can be planned. Based on the study results, alternatives to studying abroad, such as newer and better study programs in Thailand that suit students’ needs at more reasonable costs may be brought in to consideration.
This paper discusses the determinants of students in higher education from Thailand to study in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (US) as the two of the most popular countries among all international students, with the best globally recognized education systems. Various study abroad perspective were discussed and also toward other study destinations i.e. Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Thailand itself. The possible effects of the UK and US marketing strategies to recruit students in Thailand and related factors influencing decision of the students are brought in to discuss. A questionnaire interview was carried out on students and alumni from Thailand who had chosen to study in the UK or the US including observations from education service agents, higher education institutes representatives from the UK and US, and prospective Thai students seeking for education in the UK and US.
The questionnaire shown interesting perspective toward the students’ choice of education, university selection, sensitivity to price, and length of time spent, for example. The majority of the education service agents is maintaining the good level of effort in recruiting Thai students for both the UK and the US universities. The business is unpredictable due to the change of uncontrollable factors but the agent strongly believe there is huge demand for study abroad. Most of the stakeholders agreed that there are opportunities for the growth of international education in Thailand, also pathways for developments. However, the quality improvement and the cost reduction may need to be in account. . The HEIs will gain various opportunities for international education in the student source countries including Thailand as a geographical center of ASEAN is likely to benefit for the growth of international education. Even though, the group of students went to study abroad will not opt to study international program in the country. Statistic data shows the positive grow of student in the program as well. International education in Thailand is growing. Therefore, to maintain the present level of effort in recruiting students to the UK and the US is up to the HEIs in Thailand, the HEIs in the UK, the education agents, and the Commission on Higher Education, Thailand to consider their strategies to cope with this growth.Curricular : BBA/GE/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26769 SIU Thesis. Abstract: In Thailand, there is no official standard to measure golfer satisfaction for golf tourism in Thailand. A strategic model of golfer satisfaction index represents a uniform system for evaluating, comparing, and improving golfer satisfaction within organizations and industries. The purpose of this study was to develop a strategic model for improving satisfaction of golf tourism in Thailand and identify any significant differences in golf tourists’ perceptions toward service quality, golf course image, perceived value and golfer satisfaction based on demographics.
This study utilized a convenience sampling method to collect data in six golf courses of Thailand. Questionnaires were given to each golf tourist at the reception area of the golf course. Each of six golf courses was allotted 200 questionnaires, which were distributed by field workers who invited golf tourists to participate in this study. From the 1,200 questionnaires distributed, 352 were usable. Golf tourists included 67% male and 33% female. Korean was the nationality of 33% of golf tourists with 19% from Japan, and 13% from Singapore.
This study used Structural Equation Modeling to test the hypotheses and relationships among variables in the proposed strategic model of golfer satisfaction index. In addition, this study used ANOVA to test for significant differences regarding service quality, golf course image, perceived value, and golfer satisfaction based on demographics of gender, nationality, age, education, and annual income.
Statements of golf tourists who responded to open-ended questions during the pilot study as well as the responses from qualitative research’ questions by experts in the golf tourism industry and university educators helped to clarify the meaning of items included in the structured questionnaire. When the items on the final questionnaire matched the top three attributes of the four constructs which were service quality, golf course image, perceived value, and golfer satisfaction of the qualitative research’ findings, it demonstrated that the items on the questionnaires were reliable and valid.
Results indicated that a modified strategic model of golfer satisfaction index provided a uniform means of assessing the golfer satisfaction of golf tourism in Thailand. For golf course owners and managers, this strategic model of golfer satisfaction index could be a useful tool for evaluating golfer satisfaction and would provide a significant complement to conventional improvements of golfer satisfaction.Curricular : BBA/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=28539 SIU Thesis.
For golf course owners and managers, this strategic model of golfer satisfaction index could be a useful tool for evaluating golfer satisfaction and would provide a significant complement to conventional improvements of golfer satisfaction.Curricular : BBA/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=28539 Hold

ThailandAbstract: The purpose of this study was to determine and explain the effects of exchange rates on agricultural products exported from January 2003 to June 2014. The first part was the quantitative research to find the relationships between economic indicators and exchange rates of Thai Baht per US Dollar using Multiple Regression, and the relationships between exchange rates and agriculture products exports using Linear Regression. The second part was the qualitative research to find the relationships between exchange rates and export volumes of exported agricultural products.
The first part of study showed that the economic indicators were forward position (bought), balance of payment, international reserves, and interest rates that were taken as independent variables, while exchange rates were taken as a dependent variable. The best economic indicator model showed highest R2. The result also indicated the negative relationship of forward position (bought), balance of payment, and international reserves versus exchange rates. The other result of regression showed that variation in interest rates had no relationship with exchange rates. However it was also indicated the exchange rate affected the overall export volume of agricultural products among which three top products were rice, rubber, and tapioca respectively by applying Linear Regression. The result showed negative correlation of such effect. The last part was qualitative research to determine and explain the effect of exchange rates especially on rice and rubber exports obtained from the in-depth interviews of respondents which were analyzed using Content Analysis to categorize based on similar response. There were seventeen interviewees, from different levels within private and governmental businesses. The results found that there were many factors affected exchange fluctuation. The effect of exchange rates on rice and rubber exports created problems and obstacles to business growth specially when the exchange rate experiences strong fluctuations. Therefore, the company had to book forward contracts to hedge foreign exchange risk.
