Title : Suicide risk in the hospitalizes elderly in Turkey and affecting factors Material Type: printed text Authors: Avci, Dilek, Author ; Selcuk, Kevser Tari ; Dogan, Selma Publication Date: 2017 Article on page: p.55-61 Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng)
in Archives of Psychiatric Nursing > Vol.31 No.1 (Feb) 2017 [07/20/2017] . - p.55-61Keywords: Hospitalized.Suicide risk.Elderly in Tukey. Abstract: Objective
This study aimed to investigate the suicide risk among the elderly hospitalized and treated because of physical illnesses, and the factors affecting the risk.
Methods
The study has a cross-sectional design. It was conducted with 459 elderly people hospitalized and treated in a public hospital between May 25, 2015 and December 4, 2015. Data were collected with the Personal Information Form, Suicide Probability Scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. For the analysis, descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, Fisher's exact test and logistic regression analysis were used.
Results
In the study, 24.0% of the elderly were at high risk for suicide. Suicide risk was even higher among the elderly in the 60–74 age group, living alone, drinking alcohol, perceiving his/her religious beliefs as weak, being treated for cancer, having the diagnosis 11 years or over, having a history of admission to a psychiatry clinic, and being at risk for anxiety and depression.
Conclusion
In the study, approximately one out of every four elderly people was at high risk for suicide. Therefore, older people should be assessed for suicide risk and programs targeting to prevent the elderly from committing suicide should be organized.Link for e-copy: http://www.psychiatricnursing.org/ Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27078 [article] Suicide risk in the hospitalizes elderly in Turkey and affecting factors [printed text] / Avci, Dilek, Author ; Selcuk, Kevser Tari ; Dogan, Selma . - 2017 . - p.55-61.

Knowledge management effectiveness was examined through three components, improve collaboration, improve communication and improve performance.
The mid and senior level staffs of four and five stars hotels were taken as the sample of the study. Primary method of data collection was used. Data were coded adopting the steps provided by Hair, Black, Babin, & Anderson, (2010). Descriptive statistics like mean, percentage, frequency was used to describe variables. PCA was used to construct the composite variables. Shapiro-Wilk test was conducted to the normality.
The study has found the high extent of knowledge management practices in Nepalese hospitality industry. Hotels practicing knowledge management agreed that it has increased the overall performance of hotels. However, organizational culture and organizational structure was found to have insignificant influence in knowledge management practices. Title : Effects of Animal-assisted Activities on Biobehavioral Stress Responses in Hospitalized Children : A Randomized Controlled Study Material Type: printed text Publication Date: 2017 Article on page: p.81-91 Languages : English (eng) Original Language : English (eng)
in Journal of Pediatric Nursing > Vol.36 No.5 (Sep-Oct) 2017 [10/18/2017] . - p.81-91Keywords: Anxiety. Animal-assisted activities. Biobehavioral. Children. Hospital. Stress. Abstract: Abstract
Purpose
This study assessed the effectiveness of animal-assisted activities (AAA) on biobehavioral stress responses (anxiety, positive and negative affect, and salivary cortisol and C-reactive protein [CRP] levels) in hospitalized children.
Design and Methods
This was a randomized, controlled study.
Method
Forty-eight participants were randomly assigned to receive a 10-minute AAA (n = 24) or a control condition (n = 24). Anxiety, positive and negative affect, and levels of salivary biomarkers were assessed before and after the intervention.
Results
Although increases in positive affect and decreases in negative affect were larger in the AAA condition, pre- and post-intervention differences between the AAA and control conditions were not significant. In addition, pre- and post-intervention differences between the conditions in salivary cortisol and CRP were not statistically significant. Baseline levels of anxiety, cortisol, and CRP had a significant and large correlation to the corresponding post-intervention measures. Scores on the Pet Attitude Scale were high but were not associated with changes in anxiety, positive affect, negative affect, or stress biomarkers.Link for e-copy: http://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-pediatric-nursing/ Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27431 [article] Effects of Animal-assisted Activities on Biobehavioral Stress Responses in Hospitalized Children : A Randomized Controlled Study [printed text] . - 2017 . - p.81-91.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to engage patients with heart failure (HF) to assess if changes are needed in a research study design, methods and outcomes when transferring interventions used in urban/community hospitals to rural hospital settings. A qualitative structured interview was conducted with eight patients with a diagnosis of HF admitted to two rural hospitals. Patients validated the study design, measures and outcomes, but identified one area that should be added to the study protocol, symptom experience. Results validated that the intervention, methods and outcomes for the planned study were important, but modifications to the study protocol resulted. Patient engagement in the conceptualization of research is essential to guide patient-centered studies.
