This study had analyzed the significance of selected macro-economic variables that affects the share price of both banking as well as insurance sector. It had examined the impact of six macroeconomic variables mainly risk free rate, consumer price index, dollar rate, remittance, international oil price, and money supply covering the period of 8 years i.e. from August 2009 to July 2017 (96 months). Descriptive research design had been selected for the study. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) had been used to test the multiple regression model. The study found the positive significant relationship between money supply and NEPSE index and sub-index (banking sub-index and insurance sub-index). Whereas, international oil price showed negative significant relationship between NEPSE index and sub-index. Risk free rate and Consumer price index had insignificant negative relationship with NEPSE Index and sub-index. Dollar rate and worker remittance had insignificant positive relationship with NEPSE Index and sub-index. The comparative study found that the increase in risk free rate, consumer price index and dollar rate leads to increase banking sub-index. Whereas, the decrease in dollar rate and remittance decreases banking sub index. And lastly, the increase in money supply also leads to increase in insurance sub index. [LCSH]Interest ratesKeywords: Initial Public Offering (IPO), Real Gross Domestic Product, Inflation, Interest rate, Stock Market Index, Remittance, Correlation and Multiple Regressions Abstract: The study examines the impact of macroeconomic variables on the Initial Public Offering (IPO) in Nepal during the period from 1993/94 to 2015/16. Applying the correlation and the multiple regressions, the study finds that among the multiple independent macroeconomic variables taken for analysis: real gross domestic product, inflation, interest rate, stock market index and remittance, only interest rate, stock market index and remittance affected the dependent variable IPO, which was proxy by Number of IPOs, Total IPO Proceeds raised, Average IPO Proceeds raised. Stock market index and remittance have a statistically significant positive relationship with the dependent variables IPO and all of its proxies. The Interest rate, on the other hand, has a negative statistically significant relationship with the dependent variables IPO and all of its proxies. The results show that the interest rate has a negative impact on the frequency of the IPO floatation and the IPO proceeds floated by firms, in the primary market. A growing secondary stock market activity, higher inflow of remittance in the economy and a falling interest rate in the market, influences more number of firms to go public with high issue amount. Solutions of the Performance ImprovementsAbstract: Thai property fund with over ten–year history has showed continuously growth similar to the international REITs. Alas, low number of the available academic studies about the fund performance, however, might result in inefficient investment, fund and property management and regulatory employment. On the other way around, having on hand such information would benefit to country’s economy, financial and real estate business sectors, job creation and investment and saving in the future aging society.
In this research, both of the quantitative and qualitative approaches were conducted to understand concerned risk factors to the fund performance. The Bloomberg data of the fund return were regressed with quantified proxies of the risk factors, whilst 41 qualified samples were interviewed to understand their opinions about major risk concerns and workable solutions for the fund improvement.
The quantitative research provided a significant relationship between the fund performance and the market risk factor, but insignificant relationship with credit and liquidity risks. The qualitative method also showed consistent results for both market and credit risk factors. Unlike international REITs, Thai fund exhibit different features from low debt use, and short – term interest rate and debt cost. On liquidity risk, both methods supported fund size benefit, although the results showed statistically insignificance, which contradicted to the international REITs. Different maturity level between the developed and emerging counties might result in limited numbers of Thai funds with enough large size for the institutional and foreign investors to participate, so lack of investment choices might cause price appreciation of large funds. Concerns on operational risks for Thai fund is similar to REITs in relation with the property manager and sponsor, but not to the fund manager from main role of monitoring. Both legal and specific risks were found to be major concern for Thai fund like other REITsCurricular : BBA/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26350 SIU Thesis.
