Nursing.Class number: WY108 H373 2012 Abstract: "We are experiencing extraordinary changes in healthcare in this new century; changes that call upon the most creative, analytical, and innovative skills available. While the world has the resources to reduce health care disparities and eliminate the gaps in health care that exist between various population groups across the globe, accomplishing this is a long term and complicated task. Improvement in the social structure within which people live, and a redistribution of resources so that all people have access to the basic necessities of life, require an unprecedented global consciousness and political commitment"--Provided by publisher. Abstract: Community-dwelling elderly are likely to fall even after ophthalmological surgery. To identify the association between falls and ophthalmological surgery and screening experiences among the community-dwelling elderly in Japan, a cross-sectional descriptive study examined 159 community-dwelling people aged ≥ 65 years about an extensive physical assessment, health status, experience of falls, and ophthalmic situations. In this city, the study identified an association between falls and both ophthalmological surgery experience and voluntary attendance at ophthalmic screening among the community-dwelling elderly. Japanese public health nurses should be a bridge between community-dwelling elderly and ophthalmologists in the community to promote attendance at ophthalmic screening. Abstract: The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in suicide risk, meaning in life, and need for life respect among three age groups (young adults, the middle aged, and the elderly) of 540 public hospital outpatients in South Korea. This was a cross-sectional study. Among these 3 age groups, we observed significant differences in suicide risk, meaning in life, and need for life respect according to education level, marital status, living arrangements, type of disease, gender, and monthly income. These findings might contribute to the prevention of suicide in the future and the implementation of better community-based nursing care.
