Balanced scorecard (BSC)Abstract: The main purpose of the research is to determine the critical performance that the first tier suppliers should focus on. The performances are structured from the coarser level to the more detailed level as performance elements, performance indicators, and performance attributes. Eighty-eight performance attributes related to the first tier suppliers in the Thai automotive supply chain are determined. They focused on intangible elements (namely learning and growth, internal process, external structure) and “business performance” element. The critical factor index (CFI) method is used for determining the critical attributes. The results were analyzed from the viewpoints of overall responses and three separate management functional groups; namely top management, factory managers, and sales/marketing managers. The results reveal both similarities and differences in critical performance attributes in different key functional areas. “Trust” and “business performance” performance elements are found to be the most critical and should be focused on first. In the “trust” performance element, the largest number of critical performance attributes are found in the “professional-relationship” performance indicator, which is the trust between firm’s representatives and customers’ representatives. The integrated strategy map, derived from the information on critical performance attributes, is proposed for showing the linkages among the critical attributes. Medicine, Thai traditional.Class number: SIU THE: SOM-PhD-2014-02 Abstract: The aim of this research is to develop a rule-based expert system for skin problem consultation in the areas of acne, melasma, freckle, wrinkle, and uneven skin tone. The system provides pre-diagnosis and recommended treatment with Thai herbal recipes or Thai herbal cosmetics that can be used by the general public. The expert system was developed in the form of a web application for the users to access easily. In recent years, there has been an upsurge of interest in Thai traditional medicine and there are a large variety of Thai herbs available for the skin problem treatment. Spreading the knowledge of Thai herbal medicine should therefore be made a top priority. This research aims to preserve and promote Thai knowledge and local wisdom of Thai herbal recipes for skin problem treatment to Thai people as well as world-wide population. The development of an expert system for the skin problem diagnosis and treatment with Thai herbs is the first step in that direction.
The tool selected for developing the expert system is a software program written in the PHP language. MySQL database is used to work together with PHP for building database of the expert system. The system is web-based and can be reached from anywhere with Internet access.
The developed expert system gave recommendations on the skin problem treatment with Thai herbal recipes and Thai herbal cosmetics based on 546 rules derived from primary and secondary sources. The system had been tested by 50 users consisting of dermatologists, Thai traditional medicine doctors, and general users. The developed system was considered good for learning and consultation.
The present work showed how such a scattered body of traditional knowledge as Thai traditional medicine and herbal recipes could be collected, organized and made accessible to users and interested parties. The expert system developed herein should contribute in a meaningful way towards preserving the knowledge and helping promote the use of Thai traditional medicine as a practical alternative medicine for the treatment of illnesses

Capital BudgetingAbstract: This research examines project evaluation methods related to financial and non-financial measures for capital investment projects as used by Thai firms. It employs a contingency approach to test the conditions that fit both types of measures. Traditional discounted-cash-flow based project evaluation measures such as Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) have been in used for decades for capital investment projects. Newer types of projects have recently emerged that make it rather impractical to use the discounted-cash-flow techniques for project evaluation and capital budgeting. These include important types of projects such as social ventures, technological innovations, and non-standard production projects. By the very nature of these projects, their cash flows are difficult to be estimated with desired accuracies. A contingency theory framework is therefore proposed in an attempt to capture the practical reality of capital budgeting practices, using Thai firms as the study population.
The research also uses the critical factor index technique to investigate the details of both the financial cash-flow based and non-financial measures for project evaluation. The aim is to find out the critical measures that are of particular concern to Thai firms so that top management can pay appropriate attention to the right measures.
The research results based on an opinion survey of financial managers indicated that most Thai firms used capital budgeting techniques for the analysis of investment projects (74.1%) and more than half (51.7%) of total corporate capital investment expenditures were screened by capital budgeting techniques. Discounted-cash-flow techniques were found to be used by the majority of the firms with Internal Rate of Return (IRR) the most used project evaluation techniques. Moreover, risk is quantified on individual project basis in assessing risk in investment decisions. Shortening the desired payback period was used most among the risk analysis techniques and the most likely scenario received most attention in the financial justification in relation to risk.
Significantly, the results for the overall responses show the critical area for financial measures is the payback period measure, while the critical areas for non-financial measures are found to be in the customer orientation perspective. The focus on improvement in customer orientation is especially important for small firms and merchandizing firms. With the contingency approach analysis, it is found that firms with high degrees of technological innovation, social ventures and product varieties tend to use financial measures as well as non-financial measures tend to use in high degrees of social ventures and product varieties with 99% confidence level.Curricular : BBA/MBA/PhDM Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27451 SIU Thesis.
