Methods: The sample composed of 40 schizophrenic patients with alcohol abuse, residing in community, who sought for services at outpatient department of one psychiatric hospital. They were matched pairs according to alcohol consumption scores and length of diagnosis with schizophrenia and then randomly assigned into either experimental or control group, 20 subjects in each group. The experimental group received the group behavioral intervention program developed by the researcher. The control group received regular caring activities. The research instruments consisted of: 1) the group behavioral intervention program, 2) Demographic questionnaire, 3) the AUDIT scale, and 4) The coping scale. All instruments were validated for content validity by 5 professional experts. The reliability of the 3rd and 4th instruments were reported by Chronbach Alpha as of 0.82 and 0.86 respectively. The t-test was use in data analysis.
Results:
1. The alcohol consumption of schizophrenic patients with alcohol abuse after received the group behavioral intervention was lower than that before (t= 33.818, p < .05).
2. The alcohol consumption of schizophrenic patients with alcohol abuse after received the group behavioral treatment was lower than those who received the regular caring activities
(t =-7.185, p < .05). | Record link: | http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27474 |
