Critical systems vary in type from nuclear and defense applications to medical devices transportation traffic control and smart vehicles. Developing safety-critical systems involves many challenges as the consequence of their failure can be catastrophic. Different industries have different contexts and requirements that challenges production of safety cases.
Any safety critcal syetem requires certification from the approriate regulatory body before being allowed to enter service. Central to the certification process is the compilation and submission of a safety cases. A safety case presents a clear and comprehensive argument with supporting evidence that a system is acceptably safe to operate in a given context. It communicates how these evidences are related to the safety requirements (objectives)Through means of arguments. Both arguments and evidence are therefore essential elements of the safety case such that the evidence should support argument claims. Unfortunately the varied nature of safety critical means literature on safety cases is disjoint. For those new to the subject we attempt to synthesis these disparate data sources to present a chronological history of the safety case based on hindsight (past) insight (present) and foresight (future)Curricular : BSCS/MSIT Record link: http://libsearch.siu.ac.th/siu/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=24086 SIU Thesis.
